The Challenge
The requirement was to transform a brand-new Volvo XC90 into a versatile multi-role operational vehicle, combining the specialist equipment required for roads policing with dedicated drone equipment. With multiple operational functions to accommodate within a single vehicle, the challenge was to create an effective layout that allowed all equipment to be securely stored, easily accessible and seamlessly integrated without compromising the usability of the vehicle. A further requirement was to provide a reliable onboard power solution capable of supporting the additional electrical demands of the conversion whilst on the move, ensuring officers could remain operationally self-sufficient in the field.
The Solution
We converted the Volvo XC90 into a bespoke multi-role operational vehicle, carefully integrating the equipment required for both roads policing and drone operations within the available vehicle space. The layout was designed to maximise practicality and accessibility, ensuring specialist equipment could be securely stored whilst remaining readily available when required. To support the additional electrical demands of the conversion, we also incorporated a lithium battery and inverter charger system. This provides reliable onboard charging capabilities while the vehicle is in operation, allowing the additional equipment to be powered and charged on the move. We also fitted a LUDO outlet eject charging port, providing a dedicated connection for charging the auxiliary battery. Every element of the conversion was carefully considered to ensure the different operational requirements worked effectively together, creating a practical and professional solution within the confines of the XC90.
The Result
The completed Volvo XC90 provides a highly versatile multi-role platform, combining roads policing and drone capabilities within a single vehicle. The carefully considered layout ensures specialist equipment is organised, secure and readily accessible, whilst the integrated lithium battery, inverter charger and LUDO auto eject charging port provide reliable power and charging capabilities when operating in the field. The result is a modern, discreet and operationally capable vehicle that enables officers to carry out a range of specialist duties efficiently, without the need for separate vehicles or equipment platforms.
